Are you a budding urban gardener or aspiring chef? Join SKETCH’s Community Garden and Enviro-Arts program to plant seedlings, harvest the produce, cook together and share delicious food grown the SKETCH community gardens!
Join a Culinary Arts workshop to explore healthy eating, nutrition awareness, healthy outdoor activity, organic alternatives, food security and collaboration. Then join in on Enviro-arts – creating artwork in and about the natural world through sculpture, paintings, weaving, wild crafting and skill sharing, all using natural materials.
The SKETCH community gardens are cultivated by young gardeners who love getting their fingernails dirty and boots encrusted with earth. Gardeners gather in early spring and plan the year’s harvest, maintain the plots throughout the growing season, and finish the season by sharing the garden’s bounty in community feasts! Join any time of year, no experience necessary.
The program invites you to plant, tend and harvest vegetables, herbs and fruits. Learn about seed starting, plot planning, companion planting, plant identification, native species, harvesting, and growing herbs for cooking, balms and ointments. We also focus on urban renewal through public installations, workshops and outdoor sculptures working with metal, stone, tile, paints, wood, paper-making, fine crafts and art with natural or reclaimed materials.
Our garden sites are located at HOPE Gardens, Dunn Youth Garden at the Dunn Parkette, Evergreen Brickworks (for art installations), and Fort York. Maps coming soon.
