Art Courses

Movement Exploration with Nigel Edwards (8 to 10 spots available)

Sundays 6-8:30PM

Explore various techniques to help develop your own movement. Discover new ways of moving and create accessible movement practices you can do at home. No experience necessary.

About the Artist:

Nigel Edwards is a young aspiring artist known for breaking the boundaries in dance. He has been dancing professionally for 10 years with the internationally-renowned dance crew The Moon Runners and established contemporary dance company Alias Dance Project. Nigel uses techniques from popping such animation, mannequin and waving to bring his unique storytelling ability to life and continues to inspire, innovate and create through dance. He is currently a Community Associate Artist at SKETCH.

Cooking with Krystal White (8 spots available)

Sundays 2-5PM

Learn to cook a few simple recipes on your own in community. From Pizza to Wontons, this workshop is for people of all levels who love to cook for themselves and with others.

About the Artist:

Krystal White is an emerging culinary artist with SKETCH. Currently working at Smokes Poutine Shop, Krystal completed her internship with the Drake Commissary in 2017 and volunteers her time in the kitchen at SKETCH.

About the Artist:

Parker Dirks is a trans interdisciplinary artist and facilitator. They hold a degree in Ceramics from NSCAD University. Their current craft practice utilizes mold making, wheel throwing and handbuilding to create functional ceramic objects. Parker has been working as a community arts facilitator, ceramics instructor and technician since 2014. Learn more about them at www.parkerdirks.com.

BookBinding with Huda Eldardiry (8 to 10 spots available)

Sundays 2-5PM & 6-9PM

Learn the art of bookbinding! Participants will learn how to design and create a book that will be custom to their needs and wants such as a sketchbook or calendar planner.

About the Artist:

Huda Eldardiry is a textile artist and fashion designer whose work is inspired by her life experiences, allowing her to tell her story with each design created. Huda’s work has been shown in exhibitions such as Fashion Arts Toronto (FAT) for Alternative Fashion Week in 2012 and 2013, TFI Fashion Your Future Top 5 Winner 2017, Capital One Exhibit 2017, and Exhibit at Bending Spoons Gallery 2017.

Life Drawing with Jessica De Vittoris (8 to 10 spots available)

Mondays 6-9PM & Thursdays 6-9PM

Expand your visual arts technique in Life Drawing! Participants are introduced to a variety of art techniques and media in both drawing and painting. With a different array of materials and the help of visual sources–such as still-life and live model drawing. Participants will learn about line, shape, form, volume and anatomy, starting with gesture and simple forms to a higher detail focus using charcoal, pencils, soft and oil pastels, watercolor and acrylics.

About the Artist:

Jessica De Vittoris is a Mexican-Italian visual artist, freelance designer and curatorial student. Trained in fine arts and in exploring issues of culture and translatability, she has had many opportunities to work in projects that regard cultural connections through the arts, constantly rediscovering fragments of her own notion of ‘home’ in Puebla, Mexico. Jessica is interested in creating socially-engaged art and collaborative and shared experiences.

Screen Printing with Rosa Mindreau (8 to 10 spots available)

Sundays 6-9PM

Learn how to screen print with Rosa Mindreau! With more than 8 years in the screen printing business, she’ll share everything she knows, classes are fun for everyone involved! Each class includes screen printing educational handouts, resources, materials, food–and you will get to keep all the shirts/posters/patches you print. These exciting classes are completely hands on and interactive–the best way to learn the screen printing process.

About the Artist:

Rosa Mindreau is a Toronto-based visual artist. A graduate of both the Art Institute of Toronto and Toronto School of Art, Rosa specializes in multiple forms of printmaking such as screen printing, linocut printing and etching. She also creates mixed media pieces that have elements of encaustic and acrylic painting, found objects and collage. Rosa is dedicated to alternative and accessible learning opportunities for emerging artists. She also runs her own screen printing enterprise Trash Assault Print Shop located in Kensington Market.
